Dibs is run by Nick Duell. The short version: we keep what your list needs to work, we never sell it, and there are no advertising trackers anywhere on this site.
If you have a list
We store your email address and name, the items on your list, any notes you add, the sizes and preferences you choose to fill in, your occasion dates, your gift history once you mark things received, and your answers to the seasonal quiz if you use it. Your email is how you sign in and how we reach you about your own list.
If someone called dibs on a gift
Calling dibs takes nothing from you. If you choose to leave an email address, we store it so we can send you a link to manage or release your claim from any device. Your browser also remembers your own claims locally so the list looks right when you come back.
The list owner never sees who claimed what. That is not a setting, it is how the product is built. Giver identities are not shown to owners, are not included when an owner exports their data, and are not in any report we produce.
Who else touches it
We use a small number of companies to run the service, and they only receive what their job requires: Supabase stores the database and handles sign-in, Vercel hosts the site, Resend delivers our email, Stripe processes payments, and Anthropic generates the AI gift ideas.
On paid plans, the AI ideas are written from your quiz answers, your profile, and your list, which means that content is sent to Anthropic to produce them. Your card details go straight to Stripe and never touch our servers.
Analytics
We use Vercel’s privacy-friendly analytics to count page views. It does not use cookies and does not follow you around the internet. There is no Google Analytics, no advertising pixel, and no data broker.
Your list link
Your list lives at a long random address. Anyone with that link can see the list, so treat it like a house key. We ask search engines not to index list pages. If a link reaches someone it shouldn’t, you can mint a new one from settings and the old address stops working immediately.
Keeping and deleting
You can download everything we hold about you, or delete your account outright, from your settings page. Deleting removes your list, items, profile, occasions and gift history for good, and your link stops working at once.
One honest exception: we keep a record of emails we sent you, the address, subject and date, detached from your deleted account. It is how we prove what was and wasn’t delivered, and how we honour people who ask us to stop emailing them.
Children
A Family plan can include kid profiles. Those are created and maintained by a parent, hold only a name and the gift list the parent writes, and have no login and no email address. Kids cannot sign in and we do not collect anything from them directly.
Asking us things
Email hello@dibs.gifts to get a copy of your data, correct it, delete it, or ask what we hold. A person answers. If you are in a place with specific data rights, such as the UK, EU or California, those rights apply and this address is how you use them.
Changes
If this changes in a way that matters, we will say so here and update the date at the top.
